I heard them on the radio Tuesday so I figured not much would change.I went to the genre show at Fitz instead. It was pretty insane.Heard the moccasins show was cool too though.
If you ask me, your spelling and hiding behind anonymity are pretty overrated.
Here is the deal. If you don't like the Moccasins, fine it's your opinion. Post your opinion if you want but when you are too much of a coward to actually stand behind what you think by putting your name behind it, you may as well post "I am a big pussy!" to just admit the obvious
i was aware that my comment was going to garner such a response.
OK, here's the deal. i just think there are far better bands to come out of houston that havent gotten half the press that these indie pop darlings have... i am happy for them and the houston scene but i still wish a band like the scattered pages had gotten even half the attention that these guys deserve.
ah, so the solution is so simple! start a blog! talk about the bands you love! make the people care! how do you think i got here? when all the other keyboard jockeys were shooting the shit in the back room of the secret saturday festival i was out in the sun shooting the bands and it got noticed. this blog could be your life!
while i could list the differences between WM and Scattered Pages, I'll just bypass all that make the point that you are hearing so much about Wild Moccasins because, as anyone who attend the show can attest, a heck of a lot of people care. the show was a massive success and earned every bit of press it has garnered.
there is plenty of room for all sorts of different bands as far as press coverage goes, but there has to be an initial spark to start the buzz that snowballs into the type of attention these "indie pop darlings" have received.
be the man to cause the spark instead of just another miserable grouse lamenting all the could have beens until you're out of touch.
thanks for the blog suggestion but i am more interested in reading blogs than posting them at this point. I do not wish to make this a TSP vs WM thing... I was merely referencing a local band that i think is worthy of receiving the kind of press bonanza WM have... it seems like everywhere i go WM are plastered on the wall and every other article is news regarding them... i suppose this is becuase of the newly released album and the ensuing promotion... i dont think i have ever seen houston get so nutty about a band... which is such a positve thing and it makes me happy to see big turnouts for local acts but i myself am conflicted because i guess i am the only one who is not totally convinced(yes i have been to their live showS)anyway i wish them all the best at sxsw and hope they make houston proud. Either way i am generally disgruntled because houston is constantly written off as a terrible place for live music and is ignored by many musicians old and new. i just want that to change, and in my 'obviously humble opinion' i dont feel WM are the ones to do it. i am also very comfortable eating my own words.
Wow, over-rated seems like a weird thing to say when the band just sold out walter's. Fact is, with so few mediums in this town for exposure, being 'over-rated' must be hard to do. Though there are a few 'objective criteria' to what makes music good, most elements are subjective. So if you don't like something, simply move on to something else. Pretty elementary stuff..
overrated or not, that is for each individual to decide. That's why there are different tunes to please every ear. As far as I know, and please forgive my bad language, but I think that this kids have worked their asses off to be where they are now. That's why they are...... the people's choice! I was thrilled to be front row at their show. Alejandra is right. The new songs are amazing too.
my excuse - i was somewhere in california spreading around the good word of houston. anonymous - you want things to change? start a friggin band and hop in a van. quit whining about good bands doing stuff and lay your shit down.
Speaking on my behalf I appreciate all the really kind words people have said about us. I personally feel we have worked very hard for the short time we have been around and do not want people to feel that whatever level of success we have achieved has gone without gratitude to those who have helped us every step of the way. I understand that sure, not everyone will like our music, and that is a sentiment shared by everyone in the band. We never set out to beomce the "media darlings" some people have labeled us as, our intentions were never to achieve critical success or to please everyone. We merely set out to make music that we have fun playing and personally enjoy. Along the way some people have said nice things and have attended our shows and for that we are forever grateful. Honestly. I know people will have their criticisms but in a town already tainted with the reputation of having a "mediocre" music scene it does us no good, as a community, to get caught up in who deserves what because we are all just striving for the same thing right? To make good music and have fun doing it. Anyways, once again I appreciate all the nice and not so nice stuff said about us, it gives us insight on what more we can be doing without letting the tiniest margin of success get to us. And thanks Anonymous for the best wishes in SXSW and our future. Please let us know if there is anything else we could be doing!
I'm just waiting for The Wild Moccasins to cover a Homopolice song and hand it out for free at a Homopolice cd release show. To make it authentic, Andrew and Andrew should make out on stage. Other than that, a solid lineup with a bunch of free shit? How could you not cover the show?

hey, i can sympathize.
i didn't think obama was the man for the job at first, but everyone else did and so far so good, right? haha.
when a band pops up in an "off the radar" city suddenly everyone wants to break the next band from that city and that's good for all of us, right?
