Thanks Houston.

The last HPD estimate for attendance at Saturday's Block Party was 11,000+ people. To say the least, we were not prepared for a 3000 person increase for last fall's 8000. Either way, it was beautiful thing.

Might i suggest at the next highly anticipated Block Party that FPH up the amount of trash cans and maybe offer some bins for recycling oh and perhaps not selling glass bottled beer.

Thx for the Great Times JD

It was probably a great event for the public, but I know I speak for a lot of the bands there when I say it was a horribly put together festival. For one thing, by about 5:30 only one venue was on time. The night portion started and some free bands hadn't even begun their sets. Each stage needs someone in charge to make sure that things run smoothly, and that bands don't go over their time. Then you have the night portion itself. It was yalls call who played, but a few of those bands had no place on the night portion. And one of the best bands on the night portion, News on the March, doesn't even play? No power, mics, or mic stands on their stage. The people running downstairs Avant Garden (bartenders shouldn't be in charge, you should have a block party worker) didn't even know their was a night portion show at their bar. I cannot even call that bad planning. Thats no planning. Next year, if you are going to charge people 20 dollars for a festival, please give them a festival worth 20 dollars. You need staff who wont just get drunk by 6pm, but who will care about this festival being all it can be. Make us proud next year Houston!

1. the festival was free (the night portion was $20).
2. block party's are not easy to put together or run.
3. yes, bartenders should not be in charge of stages.
4. "It was yalls call who played, but a few of those bands had no place on the night portion. And one of the best bands on the night portion, News on the March, doesn't even play?"
4.a. why do you have the right to say who should and shouldn't have been on what stages?
4.b. the best bands on the paid event was definitely Devin The Dude and Valient Thor - which in my opinion was completely worth the 20 bucks.
5. if you don't like it, don't do it. or do your own guerrilla set (then you are in control)

Wow, News on the March refers to themselves as 'one of the best bands' anonymously? Just use your name won't you?

To answer a few things:

- Yes there was shitting.

- We do recycle and go to great lengths to separate glass from plastic..

- I do think NOTM march is one of the best bands in Houston, but don't refer to yourself as such.(Brent just called me and said it was not NOTM who made that last post...) Downstairs at Helios was a nightmare indeed cause we had 2 soundguys no show despite being prepaid, a bag of mics being stolen, and a group of people who did not have the sense to walk 15 yards upstairs and get a set of mics from Dunnock. Either way, after NOTM gave up, the show went on thanks to Geoffrey Muller who came through in the clutch and got the rest of the bands on board. God Bless you Geoff..

- I love you Sean. I am adding you now. I forgot.

- We need help with this festival. Feel free to lend our support..

Who is the guy who speaks for the bands? Do 'the bands' have a mouthpiece apparatchik? And when I say apparatchik, I mean coward who won't use his name when writing about things that matter to him...

Um hi, just to clarify, that was NOT anyone from News on the March. Omar has contacted us and we're totally cool with everything and not really the type to bitch on a message board.
So, thanks for the compliment but please don't speak on behalf of our band, especially when doing so anonymously.

That "Anonymous" piece of shit up there, Mr. "I know I speak for a lot of bands...", Fuck OFF!
You expect over a hundred bands to play in one day, on schedule, with no hiccups in the process? Is that what I'm hearing from your "Anonymous" bitch mouth?

On your best "anonymous" day, you couldn't have come close to organizing a street festival of this magnitude. Forget about it running smoothly- YOU DON'T HAVE THE BALLS TO PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER LIKE THE BLOCK PARTY.

This is clearly evidenced by the fact that you won't put your own name to your own words. Hell, you didn't lie about your name. Even Satan thinks you're a huge pussy, asshole.

My guess is that you're from Dallas. Shitty people like you are always from Dallas.

And what's up with that last line, fuckhead?

"Make us proud next year Houston!"

Are you calling out Houston? Who the hell is "us"?

Brent, of the greatest band in the world- News On The March, I would appreciate it if you got the name of this prick for me. Seriously.

Omar, once again you did something that nobody else has done. You avoided sucking the dick of corporate sponsors. You exposed bands that would otherwise not be exposed to thousands of people. And you did it with class, cigarettes, and nerve.

I SPEAK ON BEHALF OF HOUSTON, when I say, Thank You.

PS Annise Parker probably blew a gasket. Awesome.

PSS Shelby, Martin, Brittany, Robin, Andrea, Paulski, Javier etc... you guys are bad asses as well.

Wonderful day. I had a fucking blast, and was out there from 7:30 am plastering fliers and shit. THANK YOU for my favorite days, the westheimer block party days. I was burned out and exhausted by 8:00 PM so I missed the night acts, but again, you guys did a wonderful job. There will always be chaos and that is at it shopuld be. this is not a fucking whored out buzz-fest type corpo-shit-fest. This is communal really. 11 thousand people estimated huh? amazing. shame that only I and 8 other people saw Ladyheat's amazing set at noon in Mango's. Keep up the good work.

I paid 20 dollars and didn't feel like waiting another 2 hours for Devin to go on after #'s was already 2 hours behind. That and the Avante Garden night show clusterfuck were probably the most disappointing things of the day. However, you get what you pay for and for 20 bucks it wasn't that bad. I think it'll get better every year.

Well we for one had a great time playing to a very small crowd inside #'s. Didn't matter if there were 10, 20 or 1000 we rocked it just as hard, look foward to playing the fall HFP show!

I agree, the chaos at a Buzzfest is always expected. You can always go in a group and create your "camp" to retreat into when it gets a little too hectic.

Linus pauling quartet should have paid the $25 for each of their fans to watch them play in order to better endure the horrible experience they were going to go through. Oh but, then linus pauline quartet would only have paid out $25 anyway.

Ramon plays guitar like he doesn't know how to play guitar. Linus pauline quartet was really horrible. The old farts should pack it up and go back to school to learn some music theory. By the way, Rosa really cooks.
